Itinerary at a
Glance
- Day 1: Arriving
at this mountain top retreat will make you wish you had visited a long
time ago. You will enjoy the peacefulness of the region and the beautiful
scenery. Settle in for a relaxing time and fine dining. Dinner options
range from mountain-top country farm houses with steaks and seafood and
exquisite cuisine, to a variety of restaurants located in nearby downtown
Fort Payne.
- Day 2: Travel
to adjacent DeSoto State Park for breakfast or downtown Fort Payne to any
number of popular chain restaurants. Be sure to plan your itinerary for
the day. A suggestive one includes breakfast at DeSoto State Park followed
by a gentle hike on the Azalea Cascades Boardwalk Trail. Travel from the
park following the Lookout Mountain Parkway to the Little River Canyon
National Preserve. Waterfalls and deep canyon vistas await you along the
23-mile canyon rim drive. Depart Lookout Mountain to downtown Fort Payne
and follow the equally scenic U.S. Highway 11 to Valley Head and Sequoyah
Caverns. Here you will enjoy a guided 45-minute tour into the depths of
Sand Mountain to view ancient waterfalls, stalactites and stalagmites, and
looking glass lakes that mirror the images of this beautiful cave. Return
to Lookout Mountain to enjoy a romantic dinner at The Wildflower Cafe
Restaurant, located within minutes of your cabin rental.
- Day 3: You may not want to leave this restful location. Take a leisurely walk on the
Lookout Mountain Parkway and enjoy the views it affords into the valley
below. As you depart your cabin rental you might want to consider
horseback riding at the nearby Shady Grove Dude Ranch or attending service
at one of two historic churches. You will definitely want to lock in dates
for your next visit before leaving this wonderful mountain retreat.
