Every Weekend beginning in May through the Autumn months - Nature Programs & Guided Hikes at DeSoto State Park - Frogs, creepy crawlers, mountain life, Trail of Tears, flower and bird watching, are just a sampling of what you will learn by state park naturalists and Jacksonville State University Field School staff. Printed brochures of all programs are available by calling 256-782-5697.  Programs are held every Friday and Saturday night at the DeSoto State Park Pavilion and begin at 8 p.m. In the event of rain, programs are moved to the Nature Center. 256-845-0051

Every Saturday Collinsville Trade Day Come to historic town of Collinsville and experience the largest outdoor markets in the south.  We have more than you could possibly see on a Saturday, so plan to come back again and again.  When you get here you will find all kinds of antiques, collectibles, children's toys and clothes, work clothes and boots, fishing gear, fresh fruits and vegetables, furniture, tools and whole lot more.  Collinsville is located on US Highway 11 halfway between Gadsden and Fort Payne, Alabama.  We are located 3 miles from I-59.

Sequoyah Caverns  The caves contain hundreds of fascinating formations and thousands of fossils. It is renowned for the famous "Looking Glass Lakes" reflecting the cavern's beauty in crystal clear lakes and pools. July 2 Independence Day Celebration in Fort Payne The City of Fort Payne invites you to a wonderful celebration with free hot dogs, soft drinks, American flags, live entertainment, and a fantastic fireworks display. Event takes place at the Fort Payne High School football stadium and begins at dusk. 256-845-1524

July 3 The 28th Annual Sand Mountain Potato Festival Sand Mountain is well known for its rich diversity of agricultural products, including potatoes. Celebrate our heritage with live music, arts and crafts, entertainment, games and fireworks. Held in the Henagar Park. July 12 Rappelling Basics Class This class covers rappelling basics indoor and basics outdoor.  The basics indoor class teaches you about rappelling safety/rappelling gear and its application, rappelling knots and application, and rigging points needed for rappelling.  The basics outdoor class reviews safety procedures, knots, gear, and rigging points; then you learn how to safely rappel and do several rappels before returning to the store for the rappelling test and knot exam.  Total indoor and outdoor cost $145/person. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  256-997-9577  Note: You will receive a Class 1 rappelling card upon successful completion of this class and exams.

July 14 GPS Basic Training and Navigation Class Part 1 Learn how to use a map, compass, and a handheld GPS. Learn basic navigation and how to pinpoint a location for quick return, or quick rescue. July 14 GPS Basics Training and Navigation Class Part 2 Learn how to quickly apply navigation skills learned in part 1. July 16 Campfire Talk: Meet the Natives Meet the Natives...of The Plant Tribe, that is! Native plant material was the "General Store" for Indians and Homesteaders. Ila Hatter, naturalist and ‘Wildcrafter’ from the Smoky Mountains, will introduce you to the "natives" that provided flavor, "farmacy" and fanciful folklore! July 17 Native American Pottery Workshop Join nationally renown potter, Tammy Beane, to learn how pottery was made on Lookout Mountain thousands of years ago. August 21  Thunder By the Canyon 6th Annual Rally & Concert  This is an event fun for everyone!! For all of you bikers, jump on and ride the VIPER! Bike Rally will depart on the Viper from North South Cycles at 9:00am. November & December Christmas at Eddies This 26th annual decorating of Eddie’s Garden Center in Henagar is a fun tradition. With over 75 Christmas trees, each with individual themes, it’s impossible to see everything in just one trip. November 13 Collinsville Historic Turkey Trot Join us for food, fun and games. An antique car and tractor show, turkey shoot, cake walk, and historic “turkey toss” from the roof of a building make this an event fun for all ages. November 20 Winter Fairy Houses & Hobbit Hike (Children’s Nature Observation Skills) Pausing in the woods or along the river to create a small structure for the good folk gives children the opportunity to bond with nature on a very personal level. She’ll also lead a short “hobbity” hike through an enchanted forest to identify places where fairies might live or play to teach observation skills to budding young naturalists. Award-winning storyteller and naturalist Renee Morrison was taught to make fairy houses by her grandmother and has been making fairy houses with her sons and nature campers for decades. November 20 International TELLABRATION!! Storytelling in the Canyon The International Tellebration is a worldwide event devoted to storytelling. This grass-roots movement is endorsed by the National Storytelling Network. Join Renee Morrison and other Alabama storytellers for this fun event which includes an open stage for youth and novice tellers!
